Cheshire Psychological Therapy

Perinatal Mental Health Therapy

I am able to offer specialist therapeutic help and support to women who are experiencing difficulties during pregnancy, or as a result of childbirth, or in the early years of a child’s life.

The experience of being pregnant and becoming a parent can be far from idyllic, indeed research has shown an increase in mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, phobias and obsessive compulsive disorder during these years. Traumatic birth can lead to symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Fears of getting pregnant again and having further children may also result from a difficult birth experience. Difficulties in forming a relationship with your baby and ‘bonding’ can occur, and low mood or anxiety during the post-partum period can make this even harder. Fathers as well as mothers can experience difficulties.

I have previously led clinically on the development of a specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service in the NHS and been part of a specialist Perinatal Mental Health service in North Wales. I have completed the BPS approved Perinatal Clinical Psychology Training by the University of Exeter and NHS England and I am currently contributing to this programme as a training group facilitator. I am able to offer bespoke packages of therapeutic care to individuals, couples and parents with their infants on a flexible and private basis.
