Perinatal Psychological Therapy

We are able to offer specialist therapeutic help and support to women who are experiencing difficulties during pregnancy, or as a result of childbirth, or in the early years of a child’s life.

The experience of being pregnant and becoming a parent can be far from idyllic, indeed research has shown an increase in mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, phobias and obsessive compulsive disorder during these years. Traumatic birth can lead to symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Fears of getting pregnant again and having further children may also result from a difficult birth experience. Difficulties in forming a relationship with your baby and ‘bonding’ can occur, and low mood or anxiety during the post-partum period can make this even harder. Fathers as well as mothers can experience difficulties.

Dr Ferdenzi has previously set up and managed a specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service in the NHS. We are able to offer private work to individuals, couples and parents with their infants on a flexible basis.
